Hair Transplantation
This is a plastic surgery procedure aimed at restoring lost hair coverage in cases of baldness. The essence of the method lies in transferring the patient’s own follicles (grafts) from a donor area — most often from the back of the head — to areas with thinning hair. Hair transplantation is performed in both men and women when medication therapy is ineffective. The procedure is safe, performed under local anesthesia, and provides a natural appearance thanks to the use of the patient’s own follicles.
Hair Transplantation Methods
Modern technologies allow seamless transplantation with a quick recovery period.
FUE Method
The FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method involves extracting individual grafts using micro-punches and implanting them into the target area. The operation is minimally invasive, leaves no scars, and is performed under local anesthesia.
DHI Method
The DHI (Direct Hair Implantation) method is an advanced version of FUE. Follicles are transplanted using a special tool — the Choi implanter — which allows precise control of the depth and angle of implantation. As a result, the hairline looks as natural as possible, and hair density increases evenly.
Indications and Contraindications
The procedure is indicated for androgenetic alopecia (hair loss associated with hormonal and genetic factors) and cicatricial alopecia (hair loss due to skin damage and scar formation), as well as after head injuries or unsuccessful plastic surgeries.
The operation is contraindicated in cases of inflammation, blood clotting disorders, severe chronic diseases, and oncological conditions. Before the procedure, a medical examination and assessment of the donor area are performed.
Preparation for the Procedure
7–10 days before transplantation, patients should stop taking anticoagulants and refrain from alcohol and smoking. On the day of the procedure, the hair is washed with a mild shampoo; the doctor takes photographs, marks the correction area, and calculates the required number of grafts.
Transplantation Process
The operation lasts from 3 to 8 hours and is performed under local anesthesia. Donor follicles are carefully extracted and transplanted into areas of thinning. Thanks to microinstruments, the procedure is carried out without trauma or sutures.
After the operation, the doctor provides recommendations: avoid physical exertion, do not wear headgear for the first few days, and use prescribed products to promote skin healing.
Recovery After Transplantation
Rehabilitation takes about 1–2 weeks. The patient can return to normal activities within a few days. Shedding of the transplanted hairs during the first weeks is a natural reaction, followed by the growth of new, permanent hair. The final result can be evaluated after 8–12 months.
